“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16.
One Sunday evening, we had invited one of our pastors who is a mentor to Wade, and his wife over for dinner. We had an amazing conversation and the topic of success came up. He said that one thing he had learned over the years is if you want to be successful, live your life to be a blessing to others.
That hit me. So much that I abruptly excused myself from the dinner table to go get a pad of paper and a pen. I wrote down the statement and I stuck it to my nightstand.
Live your life to be a blessing to others.
I have heard this said in many other ways over the years. I know this is something we should be doing, but it just didn’t click until that conversation. That was God speaking to me through my pastor that evening (as He so often does).
It made me ask myself this question: Is the way I am living my life a blessing to others, or is it only self-gratifying?
Ouch. Why do I always have to ask myself those hard questions? While I do try to think of others as Christ would have, I often find that many things I do benefit myself only. I decided it’s time to change the way I think and the way I do life. I realized I first need to look UP, but then I need to look OUT.
What is God saying to you right now? Are you ready to take the next step in living your life to be a blessing to others? Are you looking UP and then OUT?
Let’s do this together, friends. How can we be a blessing to the people we run into today? How can we make their day and put a smile on their face?
Prayer: Father God, thank you so much for your continued blessings in my life. Help me shine your light and be a blessing to others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
